Singapore : A 12-year-old Indian-origin boy has clinched a prestigious spelling championship in Singapore, beating 30 others in the final showdown.
Ashvin Sivakumar, a class VI student at the Anglo-Chinese School, spelled his way to the top spot at the 'RHB-The Straits Times National Spelling Championship' yesterday.
He won the title after spelling the word "pulchritudinous" in the 10th round.
Kua Le Yi, 10, from Catholic High School came second and Loi Si Xian, 11, from Raffles Girls' Primary School was named second runner-up.
Ashvin took home SGD 5,000 and the Challenge Trophy for his school, while the other two top spellers won SGD 3,000 and SGD 1,000 respectively.
The contest was organised by Singapore-based daily 'The Straits Times' and Malaysia's RBH Banking Group.
