London:
Indian-origin Avtar Singh Kolar and his wife Carole Kolar were battered to death in a lump hammer attack in their Birmingham home earlier this month for just two mobile phones and two watches, a media report today said.
Suspect Rimvydas Liorancas, 37, who was found dead in his prison cell on Saturday, is believed to have left a suicide note referring to the murders of Avtar and Carole, the Daily Mail reported.
The Lithuanian national was arrested after detectives discovered that the stolen phones had been sold to a Birmingham city garage worker, who had bought them from an Eastern European.
Police discovered that the mobile phones had been used after the brutal murders of the couple, whose bodies were found by their policeman son on January 11.
The couple's watches and a small amount of jewellery were also taken after they were battered to death at their residence, the daily said, quoting unnamed sources.
Liorancas was found hanging in his prison cell at the top-security Woodhill Prison in Milton Keynes on Saturday, before he could offer an explanation for what happened.
However, the alleged suicide note could prove a crucial piece of evidence when police present their findings to the Kolars' inquest, the report said.
