Birmingham:
Children of a couple found murdered in their English home made a heartrending appeal on Thursday for help in finding their killers.
Avtar Kolar and Michelle Kirwan sobbed throughout a police press conference on Thursday as they paid tribute to their parents, who also have eight grandchildren.
"We are all hurting so much inside because they were so special, not only to us, but to everybody who ever met them," Kolar said. "They wouldn't hurt a fly and we just can't understand how this can happen."
The siblings' emotional appeals for help were broadcast live on British television after 62-year-old Avtar Kolar and his wife Carole, 58, were discovered dead in their Birmingham home by another son Jason, a police officer.
West Midlands Police said they could not rule out the possibility that the murders might have been a revenge attack linked to the police work of the couple's son.
"I am aware of speculation regarding motive but ... there is nothing at this stage to indicate that the fact that the couple's son is a serving police officer had anything to do with their deaths," Det. Supt. Richard Baker, who is heading the investigation.
The couple had been assaulted and likely died of their injuries, Baker said. Post mortem examinations will take place later Thursday to establish how the couple were killed and whether any weapons were used.
