Indian student goes missing in Sydney

Sydney: A 20-year-old Indian student, who arrived in Australia just months back with his family, has gone missing in Sydney, prompting a hunt by the police.

Abhijeet Swami, the young engineering student left his Sydney home on Friday on a bicycle but did not return, police said.

Swami came to Australia with his family some months back and was staying with them in a northwest suburb.

The Sydney Police issued an appeal seeking information about the boy after they recovered his bicycle and found no trace of him.

He was last seen after 10 am on Friday when he left his Seven Hills home on a bicycle, police said.

His family raised an alarm the next day when he did not return home as expected, the Sydney Morning Herald said.

The police, which launched an investigation found the engineering student's bike at the Blacktown railway station yesterday.

Police said there were concerns about his welfare as he has been in Australia only for a few months and it is believed he does not know many people other than his immediate family.
