Jaipur: The Resurgent Rajasthan summit got off to a high voltage start on Thursday with the who's who from Indian industry in attendance.
From Cyrus Mistry to Anil Ambani, Kumaramangalam Birla, Adi Godrej, Anil Agarwal, Anand Mahindra and Gautam Adani - the line-up was impressive.
Chief minister Vasundhara Raje announced that 295 memorandums had been signed in the run-up to the summit, which would mean that over Rs 3 lakh crore have been promised to Rajasthan.
"Which when translated, is 65 billion dollars of investment, and a proposed employment to 2.5 lakh people," said Chief Minister Raje.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's absence from the event has raised eyebrows in political circles, but an endorsement for Ms Raje's leadership came from finance minister Arun Jaitley, who was the chief guest at the event.
"Rajasthan is a pioneer in labour reforms and it should become a pioneer in ease of doing business and making land easily available," said Mr Jaitley. "Under her, I have no doubt in my mind Rajasthan will see a much better future."
But perhaps the most interesting announcement that will affect many travellers was the announcement by Singapore's home affairs minister K Shanmugam, who said Rajasthan will get a direct flight to Singapore.
The flight, to be operated by Singapore Airline, puts Jaipur on the global aviation map.
Singapore, a major global transit hub for air travel, and Japan are the two partner countries for the summit.
