Infiltration Attempt Foiled In Jammu, Soldier Injured In Firing

This is the second terror incident reported from the Jammu region within the last 24 hours in Poonch, Rajouri area of Jammu.

The Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir early this morning. The terrorists launched the attack around 3 am and a soldier was injured in the exchange of fire, the Army's XVI Corps said.

This is the second terror incident reported from the Jammu region within the last 24 hours in Poonch, Rajouri area of Jammu. The injured soldier has been evacuated and shifted to hospital for treatment. 

"Alert troops foiled an #infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating #terrorists with effective fire in the #Battal Sector at 0300h. During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing," said the White Knight Corps on X.

The infiltration bid comes amid a spate of terror attacks, most of which were in the Jammu region. In the last 32 months, 48 army soldiers have been killed in action while fighting terrorists in the region.

Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Union territory on Saturday and discussed measures to deal with the dramatic spurt in terrorist attacks in the area that was free from terrorism till a few years ago.

A day later, the terrorists attacked an army camp in Rajouri and also the house of a Village Defence Guard, a Shaurya Chakra awardee who was instrumental in neutralising two terrorists last year. A soldier was injured in the firing on early Monday morning, but heavy retaliation by the Army forced the attackers to flee.

Last Friday, terrorists fired at a temporary army camp set up in a school in Doda district. In the same area, four soldiers including a captain were killed last week, days after five soldiers were killed in an ambush in Kathua.

Security forces have found the involvement of Pakistani terrorists in the attacks and have been working towards strategies to search and destroy the terrorists.

The Army recently deployed more troops and Para Special Forces commandos to fight the highly trained terrorists who have infested the Jammu region.
