Intelligence Officer Abducted by Insurgents in Meghalaya
New Delhi: An officer of the Intelligence Bureau has been abducted by insurgents in the South Garo hills in Meghalaya.

Vikas Kumar, Assistant Central Intelligence Officer, was abducted on Thursday morning around 9 am from the Panda reserve forest in the South Garo Hills district. The militants had intercepted a Tata Sumo vehicle in which the officer and another person were travelling.

"Nearly 100 police personnel have been combing the area since yesterday," a police officer said. He also added that two people are being interrogated in the case.

Sources said a new group called ASAC, a breakaway faction of ANVC, a known militant group in Meghalaya, was suspected to be behind the abduction.
