US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter today said that Indian and US interests overlap and the two democracies are working jointly to help secure the global environment.
"We have so many activities we are doing together to jointly to help secure this part of the world and other parts of the world," Mr Carter told reporters on day one of his three-day visit to India.
Terming his visit to India "significant", Mr Carter, who will hold talks with his Indian counterpart Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday also said that India and US must work together to make the world safer for the generations to come.
"India, of course, has its own interests that it pursues, but our interests overlap in many important ways and where they do overlap, we must work together to make the world safer and make a safer world for our children," he said.
After his brief stopover in Goa, home state of Mr Parrikar, Mr Carter will head for the Indian naval base in Karwar, where he will be boarding the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier on Monday.
