The cargo plane with Russian markings has been cleared to take off from the Mumbai International Airport. The plane with 18 passengers including two crewmembers had intruded into Indian airspace and landed at the Mumbai airport on Friday night.
It is likely to take off at any time now from the main runway.
Government sources have told NDTV that they didn't find anything wrong as of now and the incident appears to be a 'procedural error'.
The AN-124 aircraft of Russian origin carrying ammunition and eight persons on board entered into Indian airspace without the right code and ATC clearance, following which it was escorted to Mumbai airport by Indian Air Force planes.
The aircraft, which entered the Indian airspace at around 2000 hours, did not have the permission to fly over the Indian airspace, according to sources.
IAF sources said the plane took off from Diego Garcia island, a military base near Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, and was headed to Kandahar in Afghanistan.
