Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Police would interrogate hotelier Vikram Aggarwal today in connection with the IPL betting scandal. He would appear before the Crime Branch CID at 10 am.
Mr Aggarwal, Tamil Nadu Police claim, has links with many bookies arrested in Chennai. Mumbai Police had earlier alleged that it was Mr Aggarwal who had introduced actor Vindu Dara Singh to Gurunath Meiyappan, the son-in-law of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President N Srinivasan.
Though Tamil Nadu Police had summoned him first, Mr Aggarwal chose to appear before the Mumbai Police last week, but he was not arrested. Sources close to him, however, have denied the allegations.
Mr Aggarwal owns two hotels in Chennai and police allege that a few bookies had used his hotel room to bet during IPL matches.
"We want to first make sure whether Mr Aggarwal was a punter or were bookies using his money," Narendar Pal Singh, Additional Director General of Police, CBCID, told NDTV. "Based on the information we get, a few others may also be summoned for interrogation."
A few days back, police had conducted searches at Mr Aggarwal's properties in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai. After appearing before the Mumbai Police, he had sought a week's time to appear before the Crime Branch CID in Chennai, citing health grounds.
