Bhopal:
Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Dr Mayank Jain was suspended by the Madhya Pradesh government following recovery of alleged disproportionate assets from his possession by the Lokayukta Police.
The suspension order was issued yesterday by the state government, official sources said today.
The Lokayukta Police had last month raided the residence of Mr Jain, who was posted as Inspector General, Community Policing at Bhopal, after getting reports that he allegedly amassed huge wealth in his and his family members' name which was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The 1995 batch officer is the first IPS in the state to be suspended on the issue of corruption, sources said.
Lokayukta Police raided the residence of Mr Jain's Bhopal residence along with other properties at Ujjain, Rewa and Indore last month and recovered assets worth nearly Rs 100 crore.
During the suspension period, the IPS officer, who is a qualified MBBS doctor, will be attached to the State Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal.
