Is it over for Lalu-Congress friendship?

Is it over for Lalu-Congress friendship?
Patna: Is it over for Lalu and the Congress? On Tuesday, the RJD chief did a U-turn making it clear that his support for Manmohan Singh as the next Prime Minister can't be taken for granted.

"We will sit together and chalk out a common minimum program, and reach a consensus to determine the next Prime Minister," he said.

This statement is in sharp contrast to his earlier remark when he said Manmohan Singh will be the next PM post election when asked about the issue.

And campaigning in the state, one of the top most Congress leaders, Pranab Mukherjee, gave the party's sternest warning yet to Lalu.

"Lalu will find it to be difficult to be in the next government because he is no longer with us," Pranab said.

Lalu used to be the Congress' most reliable ally, especially as he had a good rapport with Sonia Gandhi. But ever since they fell out over sharing seats in Bihar, things have rapidly worsened.

The irony is that both need each other to do even reasonably well in Bihar. But clearly, attacking each other makes more sense to them given the high stakes in Delhi.
