Ishrat case: Cong upset with Home Ministry report

New Delhi: An embarrassed Congress government is furious with the Home Ministry report that Ishrat's friends were members of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).

Apparently the affidavit was prepared by the Home Ministry three years ago, but was only recently filed in court. All that while, even though the evidence was with the Home Ministry, the Congress has been running a strong public campaign that Ishrat's friends were innocent.

Now with that the Lashkar links have been made public and the Congress is moving to control the damage.

On Wednesday, the Law Ministry has begun to demand answers, not just from the Home Ministry, but also its own law officers. Apparently, the Home Ministry report says there is no need for a CBI enquiry, but the Congress has been demanding a CBI enquiry making it appear as though the government's left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Meanwhile, most analysts are saying that all this is not relevant even if Ishrat's friends had some links to the Lashkar. A fake encounter cannot be justified, they should have been given a fair trial.
