Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday dialled Prime Minister Narendra Modi and thanked him for his "government's efforts to safeguard Israeli representatives" after a minor blast outside the country's embassy in the national capital last week.
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke today by telephone with Indian Prime Minister @narendramodi and thanked him for his government's efforts to safeguard Israeli representatives in the aftermath of the terrorist event near the Israeli Embassy in India," a tweet from his official handle read.
PM Modi assured his Israeli counterpart that India gives the highest importance to the safety and security of Israeli diplomats and premises.
"Both leaders expressed satisfaction about the close coordination between Indian and Israeli security agencies in this context," a government statement read.
On Friday, a very low-intensity improvised explosive device or IED was detonated near the Israel embassy, just 1.4 kilometres from Vijay Chowk, where President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior members of the government had gathered to attend the Beating Retreat ceremony. No person was injured in the explosion.
The Delhi Police Special Cell's initial investigation suggested that the aim of the blast was to send out a message to Israel on Iran. A letter recovered on Friday, addressed to Israeli Ambassador Ron Malka, and with the word "trailer" written on it, is being probed. The letter, found some 12 metres from the blast site, mentioned the killing of top Iranian military officer Qasem Soleimani and Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh last year.
Central agencies are probing the blast.
Mr Netanyahu also congratulated PM Modi over the production of two coronavirus vaccines - Covishield and Covaxin - in India and the start of the vaccination drive.
"The two leaders discussed possible cooperation in the production and supply of vaccines to Israel and the mutual recognition of certificates of vaccination," Israel said in a tweet.
