New Delhi:
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has joined in the search operation to trace the missing helicopter carrying Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister YS Reddy.
An ISRO owned low flying aerial remote sensing BEECHCRAFT aircraft was flown over the area at 5 pm, results are expected tonight. Area is covered with clouds and the cameras can't see much in such situations.
ISRO did not receive any signal from the search and rescue transponder, which most civil planes are supposed to carry. This gadget gives out an emergency homing beacon.
India's all weather eye in the sky, the RISAT-2 will pass over that area at about 9.30 am tomorrow. This satellite, which India acquired from Israel can see through thick cloud cover and has a resolution of less than a meter. It can also pick object hidden in sparse foliage, but reflectance from rain water on foliage may pose a problem. Earliest results from this satellite can be expected by noon on Thursday.
