Jind: At a rally in Jind today to highlight the achievements of Manohar Lal Khattar's government, BJP president Amit Shah targeted the family of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

Without naming Robert Vadra, who is Mrs Gandhi's son-in-law, Mr Shah raised the issue days after the Dhingra Commission submitted the report on land allotment to his firm in Gurgaon.

"When the son-in-law files are opened, they say it is political vendetta," Mr Shah told the audience. "The Sonia-Manmohan government was in power for 10 years and in these 10 years, there have been scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore," he said.

Stressing the Narendra Modi government has had a "corruption-free record in the past two-and-half years," Mr Shah launched a scathing attack on the Congress.

The Congress, though, rejected the charge and made a counter-attack on Mr Shah. "Amit Shah himself is charge-sheeted and he's making these statements," responded Ajoy Kumar, a spokesperson of the Congress party.

Mr Kumar claimed the previous Congress government in Haryana was "transparent in its dealings" and the party "welcomes an inquiry if there is a need".

But almost in the same breath, the Congress spokesperson, accused the BJP of political vendetta.

"The BJP and its various governments have been involved in lodging false cases against its opponents," said Mr Kumar.
