New Delhi: 201 Indians have been rescued after a luxury cruise liner ran aground and tipped over off the Tuscan coast in Italy, leaving six dead. 16 are still missing, including an Indian.
Kevin, the brother of the missing Indian Rebello Russel Terence, told NDTV that getting information from the local authorities and the shipping company has proved to be difficult. Terrence was a waiter on the luxury ship.
The evacuated Indians, meanwhile, are being taken to a safe place and External Affairs Minister S M Krishna has ordered immediate action in this regard.
Mr Krishna had instructed the Indian Ambassador to Italy, Debabatra Saha, to reach the accident spot by Monday morning to coordinate rescue operations while two Indian officials have already reached the site.
The minister told his officials that there was no need for any papers, proof or documentation as the safety of the Indians was the first priority.
The luxury liner, Costa Concordia, was carrying more than 4,200 people, many of whom were having dinner at the restaurant, when it hit a reef or rock near the Tuscan island of Giglio.
