J Dey case: Jigna Vora's custody extended till Dec 9
Mumbai: A special court has extended till December 9 the police custody of journalist Jigna Vora, who has been arrested on charges of abetting the murder of senior crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey.

Ms Vora was remanded to further police custody after prosecutor Dilip Shah argued that new material had come to light in the last few days and this needed to be probed.

He also said that Ms Vora was not cooperating with the investigation.

Ms Vora, Deputy Chief of Bureau of Asian Age, was recently arrested under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on charges of supplying licence plate number of the motorcycle and address of the slain journalist to Rajan.

Jyotirmoy Dey, working with MidDay, was shot dead on June 11, allegedly by underworld don Chhota Rajan's men. Rajan has been named in the chargesheet filed by Mumbai police.

Apart from the underworld don, Rohee Thangappan Joseph alias Satish Kalya, Abhijeet Shinde, Arun Dake, Sachin Gaikwad, Anil Waghmode, Nilesh Shendge, Mangesh Agawane, Vinod Asrani, Paulson Joseph and Deepak Sisodia have also been named in the chargesheet filed on December 3. All these accused have been arrested.

According to the police, Chhota Rajan was upset with two articles written by Mr Dey which portrayed him in bad light and hence ordered him to be killed; he wanted to send a message to the media that those who write against him would be killed.

The police also say that Ms Jigna had instigated Rajan to kill Mr Dey due to professional rivalry.
