
Protesters clash with police during Friday's clashes in Kishtwar (PTI)
Kishtwar:
The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a high-level inquiry into Friday's clashes in Kishtwar in which two people were killed and 30 others were injured. The district, located 230 km north of Jammu, continues to be under curfew for the second day today.
"It is hereby ordered that Jammu Divisional Commissioner Shantmanu is appointed to inquire into the incidents of violence and arson and the consequent loss of life and property that took place in Kishtwar," General Administration Department (GAD) Secretary MA Bukhari said in his order and added that the inquiry officer shall submit his report within three weeks.
The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Kishtwar district were transferred last night following the clashes between two communities.
During the clashes, police and paramilitary forces used batons and teargas to disperse mobs. The army was called in to help control the situation.
Hardline Hurriyat Conference has called for a general strike in Jammu and Kashmir today. The state BJP unit has also called for a strike in Jammu.
All the educational institutions in Jammu province will remain closed for the day.
