Sopore:
One policeman was killed and four others were injured in a grenade attack by militants in the Sopore town of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir early today.
The militants reportedly attacked the police during a protest. "Around 2:30 AM, the militants hurled a grenade and fired at a police party near the Main Chowk in Sopore when miscreants were pelting stones," a police spokesman said.
He added that five policemen sustained injuries in the attack. "One constable succumbed to injuries. Two injured cops were referred to Srinagar for treatment while the other two cops were being treated at a hospital in Sopore," the spokesman said.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
This was the second militant attack on security forces in the past 24 hours in Kashmir. On Friday evening, a policeman was shot dead in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir.
