Srinagar:
The Supreme Court has granted 2 weeks' time to the Centre and J&K government to file its responses on the ban on pre-paid mobiles in the state.
The case will now be taken up on January 8. The supreme court issued notices after admitting a petition challenging centre's decision on the ban.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had decided earlier that no fresh pre-paid mobile connections would be issued and existing pre-paid SIM cards should not be renewed in the state after November 1.
The move affected nearly 38 lakh pre-paid mobile phone subscribers in the state.
The step came in the wake of reports that proper verification is not being done while providing such pre-paid mobile connections by the service providers/vendors.
In some cases, a single person had been issued with multiple number of connections.
