Jaipur:
At first glance, Babu looks like any ordinary two-year-old, but a closer look at his feet reveals how special he is, as both of them are fitted with the Jaipur Foot.
When Babu was barely 15-days-old, a freak illness led to gangrene, and he lost both his feet and one hand. But his family didn't give up hope, and now the Jaipur Foot, that has rebuilt millions of lives has become a big boon for Babu.
"We had lost hope of his survival but God saved him. Now I am very happy that he can stand on his feet and walk. We will work hard to help him lead a normal life," said Neha Devi, Babu's mother.
But creating this artificial limb for Babu wasn't easy. Doctors say this is the first time that such a young child has been fitted with the Jaipur Foot on both legs, and designing and crafting such a small sized limb and fitting it onto Babu was a tough challenge.
"We arranged for a Jaipur Foot for Babu and then crafted the rest of the limb on our own and after much difficulty we fixed that part into the Jaipur Foot. Now he will have no problem in walking and he can lead a normal life," said Dr. Anil Jain from the Jaipur Limb Rehabilation Centre.
Given the skill of doctors, and his family's determined efforts, Babu can now crawl and walk around comfortably. Hopefully, the Jaipur Foot that has helped to restore happiness to his childhood, will also enable Babu to live a normal and productive life in future.
