Srinagar: Hours after the twin terror attacks in Srinagar in which three policemen were shot dead, two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, including its top commander, have been killed in an encounter in uptown Srinagar.
"Yes, two terrorists were killed at Saraibal. One of them is Saifullah, Jaish commander in Kashmir," said Javid Gilani, Inspector General of Police.
He said both the killed terrorists are Pakistanis but they are not necessarily linked to today morning's attacks in the city.
Police says it was a brief encounter after they launched the operation based on specific information about the presence of Jaish terrorists.
On Monday morning, terrorists on motorcycles opened fire at a group of police officers standing at a tea stall near their post in Srinagar, killing two of them.
Assistant Sub Inspector Ghulam Mohammad and Head Constable Nazir Ahmad, both unarmed, died on the spot. The shootout took place in the downtown Zadibal area of Srinagar. The attackers had fled after the attack.
Later, another policeman, Mohammad Sadiq, was killed in a separate shooting in Tengpora and his AK-47 rifle was taken away.
