Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's Global Business Summit, being held in Kolkata over Friday and Saturday, may have pulled off at least one political coup.
On day one, Mr Arun Jaitley and Mr Arvind Kejriwal are lined up to speak at the plenary session. First, the Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting. Two speakers later, the Delhi chief minister.
Given the DDCA affair - in which Mr Kejriwal has accused the cricket body of corruption with Mr Jaitley at its helm; and the Finance Minister has slapped defamation cases on Mr Kejriwal and his colleagues - ties between Mr Jaitley and Mr Kejriwal could be under strain.
Mr Jaitley apart, three other speakers at the plenary session after the inauguration of the summit include Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu and Piyush Goyal. All three are also key ministers in the Narendra Modi government.
Mr Jaitley was keynote speaker at the summit last year too. Mr Gadkari had also attended. This is the second time that the summit is being hosted by Ms Banerjee.
Providing the summit the global touch are Bhutan's prime minister, Tshering Tobgay, Bangladesh's minister of commerce Tofail Ahmed and UK's minister of state for employment, Priti Patel.
Details of business top brass who are likely to attend are yet to be confirmed. But one name doing the rounds is Mukesh Ambani.
