Kolkata: The Kamtapuri Liberation Organisation or KLO has denied any connection to the blast in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district on Thursday that killed six people.
In an email sent to media persons, KLO's general secretary Kailash Koch claims the police is trying to mislead people by pointing fingers at his organization. "The West Bengal police has been trying to bring misunderstanding among the Kamtapuri people by blaming us," he says in the email.
Police, however, are sticking to their theory that the KLO is responsible for the incident. The blast site is still being tested for forensics.
The blast reportedly took place on a bicycle at around 7:20 pm on Thursday. Police suspect the cyclist was a KLO linkman who may have been going to place the bomb in a more crowded area but it accidentally went off.
The KLO is demanding a separate state in north Bengal for years. In the last decade, they even allegedly tied up with the United Liberation Front of Assam or ULFA for arms training. Thursday was KLO's Shahid Diwas. Saturday is KLO's founding day and North Bengal is on the edge.
