Jammu: 2000 doctors on indefinite strike

Jammu: Nearly 2000 government doctors in Jammu are on an indefinite strike, demanding better pay and stipend for resident doctors. But as the deadlock between agitating doctors and the government in Jammu and Kashmir continues, it's patients that are suffering.

Tripta needs an open-heart surgery for which she and her husband Kuldeep have travelled 200 km to reach Jammu. But the strike by doctors has meant they will have to wait, how long, they don't know.

"We don't have money, people have collected money for us. We are requesting the government to please help us," said Kuldeep.

Many other patients are facing similar problems. Avtar Krishan has been doing the rounds of the government medical college and hospital for a week now to get the test reports of his ailing sister.

"I had to get a certificate for the benefit of the patient. I have been trying from 6th and today is 12th, but so far nothing seems to be moving," said Avtar.

Out of the 2000 government doctors who are on an indefinite strike, demanding better pay and more stipend for resident doctors, nearly 300 have even given their resignation letters to the principal of government medical college hospital. This has paralysed OPD and emergency services, affecting many patients.

The tough stand taken by the government and the doctors is hurting common man the most. People don't want to suffer anymore and they want to see an end to this crisis as soon as possible.
