Srinagar:
Jammu and Kashmir Law Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar had a narrow escape today after he survived an attack by unidentified militants in Srinagar.
A policeman was killed and three others were injured in the incident.
Mr Sagar, who is a senior leader of the National Conference, was at his ancestral house in the Nawakadal area when the militants struck. They fired at his convoy but he managed to crawl to safety.
"Thanks to Almighty that I am safe. However, it's very sad that one of my policeman died in this unfortunate incident", Mr Sagar told PTI.
Mr Sagar is an MLA from the downtown Khanyar locality in Srinagar.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister of State for Home Nasir Sogami condemned the incident and directed the state police to ensure speedy investigation to bring the culprits to book.
This is the first incident in recent years where a political figure has been targeted by militants in the downtown area itself.
