Jammu:
A war of words between the ruling National Conference and the state's main opposition party, the People's Democratic Party on the issue of surrender policy for Kashmiris in PoK. Both are trying to outdo each other for taking the credit even before the implementation procedure of the surrender policy is being worked out.
Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir said: "PDP is saying that it is responsible for bringing in the surrender policy, but we have seen what little they are capable of doing, I am waiting for the day when there will be a discussion on this issue in the assembly, I will show them the record during their speeches when they had cast votes against the proposal."
The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister dares the Opposition for a discussion on the surrender policy for Kashmiris in PoK.
Omar claims it was his party that vigorously pursued the surrender policy with the Centre. However, the PDP is not buying that argument.
PDP Leader, Mehbooba Mufti said: "Mufti Saab was the first person who took up this issue with the Prime Minister many a times even before it was discussed on the round table, Omar Abdullah is trying to divert the attention by talking about these issues. "
While the National Conference and the PDP are competing with each other to claim the credit for the surrender policy, the Jammu based parties have outright rejected the concept.
But the surrender policy has the support of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who says it will facilitate the return of Kashmiri youth willing to give up violence and return to the mainstream.
Others like Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are questioning the policy itself.
