Jammu: In the wake of heavy snowfall in various parts of Kashmir Valley, the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway has been closed for vehicular traffic and restrictions have been put on various inter-district highways.
"While we are clearing the stranded vehicles, no fresh vehicles would be allowed to start their journey from either side of the Jammu-Srinagar highway," SSP Traffic National Highway Sanjay Kotwal told PTI.
He said that in the wake of heavy snowfall on the highway, the decision to stop the vehicular traffic was taken to avoid any untoward incident.
"Today, we allowing stranded vehicles to pass and further decision on movement on the highway will be taken once it stops to snow," he said.
He said that heavy snow clearing machinery has been deployed to clear the highway.
An officer at the traffic control room Jammu said that advisory has been issued to the public travelling on inter- district highways.
"Due to heavy snow and rainfall slippery conditions have developed at various places, so people have been advised to exercise caution while travelling and if possible to cancel the travel," he said.
