Jammu's braveheart Rukhsana on militants' hit-list

Jammu: Rukhsana Kousar, Jammu's braveheart and winner of Kirti Chakra - the country's second highest peace-time gallantry award, still has to live dangerously. A land mine planted by suspected militants was detected and diffused near her old house in Rajouri. Luckily, Rukhsana does not live there anymore.

"She has remained on the target of militants. Earlier also militants have targeted her. The IED was first spotted by a child," said Shabir Ahmad, Additional SP Rajouri.

Rukhsana, along with her brother Aijaz became the toast of Jammu and of the whole nation after killing Pakistani terrorist Abu Osama in September last year, with an axe and the terrorist's own rifle. Rukhsana was NDTV Brave Indian of the Year and she said while receiving the award that she could be on the militants' hit-list.

This is not the first time Rukhsana was attacked. Last year, gunmen attacked a police picket near her house with grenades, but she was not home at that time. Ruksana is now a police officer and though she is under police protection, attacks like this still take place.
