Jaswant Singh quits parliamentary panel
New Delhi: Former BJP leader and MP Jaswant Singh has resigned as chairman of the public accounts committee (PAC), a  key parliamentary panel.

Singh quit on Monday and his resignation has been accepted, sources said. It is in effect from December 31.

The BJP had made several efforts to get him to quit the post ever since he was expelled from the party earlier this year for his controversial book, in which he praised Mohammad Jinnah.

But Singh refused to quit and the issue became an embarrassment for the BJP. He was nominated for the post while still a senior member of the party. The PAC scrutinises government spending.
