Ahmedabad:

Gujarat Chief minister Narendra Modi may have tried to keep Jaswant Singh's book out of bounds for the readers in Gujarat, but a day after the state High Court lifted the ban, the book hit the stores.

Readers walked into the bookstores to lay their hands on the copy of the book.

The first lot of 150 copies arrived in Ahmedabad a day after the High Court snubbed the government for banning the book without giving satisfactory reasons. At least 10,000 copies have been supplied to bookstores in the state.

Ever since the court scrapped the ban, people have placed orders in as many as three-dozen prominent bookstores across the state. And bookstore managers like Himanshu Shah have been busy taking phone calls.

"Ever since the ban was lifted, we have got number of calls and we immediately placed an order. We have got the first lot of 150 copies and more are coming," said Himanshu Shah, manager, Crossword.

Reema, a college student, was one of the first to lay her hands on the book. More than history, she's curious to know why the Modi government banned the book in the first place.

"I want to read it because I want to know the historical facts and also what's in the book which forced the government to ban it and why Jaswant Singh got into trouble with party," said Reema, a student.

While a few stores in Ahmedabad have managed to get the first lot of Jaswant Singh's book, many others are expecting fresh stocks in a day or two.

Clearly, the controversy over the book has only added to the interest of the readers.
