Jats In Haryana Postpone Stir After Talks With Chief Minister ML Khattar

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also told the Jat representatives that he would work towards maintaining harmony in the state.

Chandigarh: Agitating Jats in Haryana decided to postpone their proposed agitation demanding reservation in government jobs after a meeting with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Chandigarh today.

After the meeting, leader of the Sarva Khap Jat Panchayat, Sube Singh Samain announced the postponement of the proposed February 15 rasta-roko in Haryana.

Raghuvir Nain, Samasth Jat Samaj Sanghthan leader also said that they have decided to postpone the proposed agitation till March end.

The state government today formed a four-member committee comprising Chief Secretary DS Dhesi, Principal Secretary, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes TC Gupta, Principal Secretary (Industries) Devender Singh and a representative from the office of the Haryana Advocate General to examine the issue in detail.

The committee would submit its report by March 31, 2016, an official spokesman said.

The spokesman said that Mr Khattar after studying all aspects related to reservation to special backward classes, directed to constitute a four-member committee under the chairmanship of the chief secretary to prepare outline for future action.

During the meeting the chief minister made it clear that the Haryana Government was always with every person belonging to backward classes irrespective of any community to which he belongs, the spokesman said.

Mr Khattar also told the Jat representatives that he would work towards maintaining harmony in the state.

The chief minister also said that it is responsibility of every person to understand the issues and maintain peace in the state.

Mr Khattar told them that he considers 2.5 crore population of Haryana as his family and has been working towards welfare of the people by rising above caste and politics and following the principle of Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas and Antyodaya .

Among those present in the meeting from the government side included Finance Minister, Abhimanyu, Agriculture Minister, OP Dhankar, Chief Secretary, DS Dhesi and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, RK Khullar.

Besides Mr Samain and Mr Nain, among other Jat leaders present in the meeting included Dharmpal Chhot and Randhir Saroha.
