Jaya Prada's city slicker act in UP

Rampur: It could be a scene from one of her movies. Jaya Prada in a bullock cart wails "Amma, Amma". But this was not a city slickers role for Ms Prada. This was her response when the bullock cart she was riding on nearly got stuck in a ditch.

On Sunday, the actor toured flood-hit villages in her constituency of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. A grassroots politician may have been the image she wanted to project. Instead, she was clearly out of place. Villagers surrounded her, bemused as she broke into tears, offering her this gentle consolation: "Madam, theek ho jaayega" (it will be fine)".

Her party members say Ms Prada has not caused them any embarrassment. "Our brave party members are with her. She will never find herself alone", brags Shivpal Yadav, executive president of Prada's Samajwadi Party.

Ms Prada was seen folding her hands in prayer at the end of her journey.
