Jayalalithaa blacks out Karunanidhi's colour TV scheme
Chennai: There will be no free colour TVs for the people of Tamil Nadu, as Jayalalithaa today scrapped the DMK's most popular programme.

The remaining TVs will be given to schools, orphanages and primary health centres.

The DMK had for its flagship programme given away 1.6 crore free TVs over the last five years. It went about spending Rs 4000 crore for it.

Earlier this week, the Jayalalithaa government decided to set up a commission of inquiry into alleged irregularities in construction of the Rs. 1000 crore new Legislative Assembly complex.

"DMK has seen and faced many inquiry commissions. We are not bothered about this one and we are ready to face it," party's Legislature Leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, M K Stalin told reporters.
