Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has hiked compensation from one lakh to two lakh rupees. This comes after reports that one woman was killed in flash floods in Tamil Nadu's Tirupur district and six others have gone missing. Officials say that many low lying areas in Tirupur have been flooded and around eight hundred people have been moved to relief centres.
In total, 34 people in Tamil Nadu have died due to heavy rains since October 24 this year.
The Chief Minister also said that those who were temporarily evacuated to get Rs 1,000 as relief. She added that senior officials would visit districts every fortnight to review flood prevention work.
About the 179 huts which were fully damaged, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister announced Rs 5,000 compensation for each affected family.
