New Delhi: The Supreme Court is expected to take up a case today involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's alleged illegal wealth.

The court had put on hold till today the trial against Ms Jayalalithaa at a Bangalore court, and issued notice to the Tamil Nadu anti-corruption wing.

Ms Jayalalithaa had moved the top court against a Karnataka High Court order refusing to stop the trial.

Jayalalithaa, her aide Sasikala and others are accused of accumulating disproportionate assets worth 66 crores during her stint as chief minister in 1991-96.

The Supreme Court had shifted the trial to a special court in Bangalore in 2003. The Chief Minister is charged with transferring her assets to 34 shell companies. One of the companies, Lex, moved court saying their assets did not belong to Jayalalithaa, who has said that until the company's petition is decided, the case against her should be stayed.
