Jaipur's Aman Bansal Tops In IIT-JEE Advanced Exam

IIT-JEE exam topper, Aman Bansal, is from Jaipur.

New Delhi: Jaipur stood tall today with two young men from the city topping the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) for 2016. Aman Bansal came first and Kunal Goyal third in the results, which were declared today.

In the highly competitive exam -- on basis of which admissions to the prestigious IITs and other top engineering colleges are granted -- the second position was grabbed by Bhavesh Dhingra of Yamuna Nagar.

"I got support from everyone, I feel good. I have handled pressure, taking guidance from teachers to handle pressure," said Aman Bansal.

Mr Bansal, the son of an engineer working with the government, says he has decided to study computer science from IIT Bombay and will be working in India.

Mr Goyal said he had not expected to come third. "I expected to be within top 100. I am learning for my knowledge, not for rank," he said.

Riya Singh from Kota is the topper among girls with an all-India ranking of 133. Seats to 23 IITs including the four new ones will be allotted on the basis of this test which was organised by IIT Guwahati this year.

Over 1,55,948 candidates had registered for the exam and 36,566 qualified, as per the official JEE website. Of these 31,996 are boys and 4,570 are girls.

Apart from IITs, admissions on the basis of this exam are granted to other institutes like Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram.
