Sajal Chakraborty was appointed by the Hemant Soren government.
Ranchi:
The Jharkhand government has removed Chief Secretary Sajal Chakraborty well ahead of the scheduled completion of his tenure.
Mr Chakraborty, appointed to the post by the erstwhile Hemant Soren government, was to retire next year.
But over the last few days, serious differences were said to have cropped up between him and new BJP Chief Minister Raghubar Das.
Mr Chakraborty alleged that he was publicly told off by the Chief Minister at a review meeting today.
Mr Chakraborty said he had made some suggestions which Mr Das had brushed aside. When he remonstrated with the Chief Minister, he was asked to "get out," Mr Chakraborty alleged. There has been no comment from the Chief Minister or his office.
The Jharkhand government has pointed to Mr Chakraborty's replacement Rajiv Gauba and his expertise in managing the Maoist situation.
Mr Gauba is coming from a Delhi posting, where he was heading the Maoist desk at the Union home ministry.
Given the Maoists problem in the state, government sources said his expertise will be handy. Mr Gauba has also worked at the International Monetary Fund and served in the Indian Embassy at Washington.
