Jamshedpur:
Jharkhand government has recommended CBI probe into the recently unearthed Rs 1000 crore land scam in Deogarh district.
"We have forwarded the recommendation to the Union government for necessary action," Jharkhand Home Secretary J B Tubid said.
The district administration had recommended vigilance inquiry after a case land grabbing was lodged about a fortnight ago.
However, some documents kept in a sealed box were stolen mysteriously from a locked record room. This led to the Deoghar police to raid the house of a peon of the land department on September 1 during which Rs 7.29 lakh in cash was recovered.
The peon, Sunil Kumar Poddar was arrested and his statements during interrogation led to the arrest of a land mafia, Dhruv Parihat and the scam was subsequently unearthed.
Three people whose lands were forcibly grabbed allegedly by Parihat over two decades ago, had lodged their complaints with the police.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (acting) of Deoghar, K Ravi Kumar suspended two assistants of the land department record room today and ordered a departmental inquiry against other staff members in connection with the disappearance of the documents, official sources said.
