Jharkhand official's abduction: Maoists extend deadline

East Singbhum: Maoists in Jharkand have given the government 24 hours to meet their demands. In exchange, they would set the abducted Block Development Officer free. The officer was abducted on Saturday.

The CPI (Maoist) extended their deadline, which ended last evening, by 24 hours as the Jharkhand Government agreed that some persons were "falsely implicated and arrested."

The spokesman of Bengal-Jharkhand-Orissa Border Regional Committee of CPI (Maoists)  Rakeshji demanded that the government should withdraw forces from Ghora-bandha police station area and stop search operations, besides the release of all the 14 arrested by police.

The extension of the deadline comes hours after the BDO's wife threatened self-immolation along with her daughter if the Maoists harmed her husband.

The Maoists' spokesperson said Prashant Kumar Layek, the abducted officer, was in good health.
