Dr Shreya Bhattacharji is an associate professor with the Centre for English Languages at the Central University of Jharkhand.
Raipur:
The Central University of Jharkhand, that had
suspended a professor after she invited a teacher from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to an event, has recalled the order.
In a fresh notice uploaded on its website on Thursday evening, the university refused to give reasons for the recall but said "in view of the recommendations of the Fact Finding Committee, the Vice Chancellor is pleased to recall the order of suspension of Dr Shreya Bhattacharji, Associate Professor, Centre of English Language with immediate effect".
The University had ordered the suspension on March 28 stating that the decision of Dr Bhattacharji to invite a JNU professor to an event earlier in the month had led to the cancellation of the Jharkhand governor's visit to the university.
The event was held in the university between March 17 and 19.
Dr Bhattacharji was also
accused by the government-run university of "tarnishing" the institution by inviting JNU professor MN Panini, who they said, "is the mentor of the group of students of JNU, who were involved in anti-national activities in JNU recently".
But on Wednesday, the governor's office wrote to the university saying she never accepted the invitation from the University in the first place, and asked the university to correct the suspension order and bring out the true facts in the case.
JNU has been at the centre of a massive controversy over the arrest last month of students including Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges, for their alleged role in an event in support of terrorist Afzal Guru, where anti-India slogans were raised.
