Two men have been sentenced to death and one to life in jail for the murder of IT executive Jigisha Ghosh in Delhi in 2009.
Jigisha, 28, an operations manager with a consultancy firm, was kidnapped and killed after she was dropped off by her office cab near her home in Vasant Vihar in south Delhi. Her body was found three days later on the outskirts of Delhi, near Surajkund in Haryana.
Ravi Kapoor, Baljeet and Amit Shukla were found guilty of killing her and using her debit card for a shopping spree at a popular market in the capital. They were caught on CCTV cameras buying watches, shoes and sunglasses without any apparent remorse.
Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla are now on death row.
On July 14, the court said it was "abundantly clear" that the three men had killed Jigisha. "They committed her murder and disposed of her body in the bushes. Circumstantial evidence makes it clear that it was these men who committed the crime," the court said, handing down a guilty verdict.
The police had asked for the death penalty for all three, saying that they had killed her "for pleasure and shown no remorse, which was obvious from the CCTV footage."
Baljeet and Amit Shukla have spent over seven years in jail. Ravi Kapoor had pleaded for an easier sentence saying he suffers from a life threatening disease and is from a poor family.
After the weapon used in Jigisha's murder was found, the police said they had solved another murder case - that of TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan, who was shot dead in 2008 while she was driving home from work before daybreak.
