JNU Row: Probe Found Nothing To Suggest Videos Were Doctored, Says Government

JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar was charged with sedition and criminal conspiracy.

New Delhi: The Delhi Police, in its investigation into the controversial event at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in February, has found nothing to suggest that channels had doctored the original videos related to the incident, the government said on Thursday.

"Delhi Police has reported that no such fact/video has come to the notice of Delhi police during investigation of JNU incident on February 9, 2016," Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

He was responding to a question as to whether some news channels doctored the original video of the JNU incident and broadcast misleading news instigating frenzy in the country.

On February 9, an event was organised on the JNU campus to protest against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

During the controversial event, anti-Indian slogans were allegedly raised, leading to registration of a police case under charges of sedition and criminal conspiracy against some students, including JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar.
