People's Welfare Front (PWF) today demanded that the sedition case against Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students union president
Kanhaiya Kumar, be withdrawn.
Addressing reporters, the convenor of the PWF and CPI Puducherry State committee, R.Viswanathan alleged that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre had been gagging the voice of the
progressive minded student outfits. "Filing sedition case against the president of JNU students union is highly objectionable and the case should be withdrawn immediately," he said.
Leaders of other parties of the Front,
including CPI-M, VCK and MDMK, were also present.
Hitting out at the N Rangasamy-led All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) government in Puducherry, he claimed it was no better than the previous Congress regime and was ignoring the welfare of the people.
"Healthy fiscal planning is totally absent in Puducherry," Mr Viswanathan said.
The leaders and cadres of PWF would launch 'meet the people' programme in the Union Territory for 11 days from February 19, he said.
Mr Viswanathan said once the election schedule was announced for the Assembly polls, the PWF would decide seat sharing among the constituents.
