New Delhi: Vijay Jolly of the BJP will not be punished by the party for his act of vandalism at the home of journalist Shoma Chaudhury in Delhi.
Party chief Rajnath Singh said Mr Jolly has "apologized unconditionally" for his action and has been named in a police case, which is being used by the BJP as an exit route from the controversy.
Yesterday, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said she condemned Mr Jolly's action. Her party would decide the consequences, she professed.
But sources say that the BJP wants to avoid the attention that penalizing Mr Jolly would garner.
Yesterday, Mr Jolly and a group of his supporters threw black paint at Ms Chaudhury's gate and painted the word "Accused" on her name-plate, hours after she resigned as the Managing Editor of Tehelka. She quit the news magazine after being pummelled by criticism over her handling of a complaint of sexual assault against its founder, Tarun Tejpal.
"She has been trying to suppress the complaint and facts in the case," shouted Mr Jolly.
