4 TMC members, including state party president Thounaojam Shyamkumar joined the Congress in Manipur.
Imphal:
All four legislators of the Trinamool Congress, including the party's state president Thounaojam Shyamkumar, have joined the ruling Congress party in Manipur.
A reception ceremony to welcome the new members was held in presence of senior Congress leader CP Joshi, Manipur and Assam Congress secretary Avinash Pande and Dr Vijay Laxmi Sahoo at the Manipur Pradesh Congress Bhavan.
In 2012, six Trinamool Congress candidates were elected to the Manipur assembly. Three of them were disqualified by the speaker Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh in 2015. Only one was allowed to attend the state assembly.
The decision of the four Trinamool Congress legislators to join the Congress comes as a morale booster for the party after a Congress legislator, Yumkham Erabot, joined the BJP on September 12.
