Journalist Nirupama's mother gets parole; cops still clueless

New Delhi/Koderma: A week after she was sent to jail on charges of killing her daughter, Sudha Pathak is out on a three-day parole to attend the last rites of Nirupama - a Delhi-based journalist.

But in one week the case has become more complicated.

Based on a court order, police have registered a case against Nirupama's boyfriend on charges of rape and abetment to suicide, while her mother has been booked for murder.

"We will take action against all of those guilty. The investigations are being conducted in right earnest," said Neyaz Ahmed, DGP, Jharkhand.

Questions are also being raised about the manner in which doctors conducted the post-mortem on Nirupama's body - was not preserving the viscera callousness, or intentional?

In the last few days police team from Koderma has been in Delhi to consult forensic experts who have told them that Nirupama's post-mortem report is incomplete. The experts have also told them that suicide cannot be ruled out, neither can murder by smothering.

Experts say they need more details that have been omitted in the report before arriving at a final conclusion.

The Jharkhand Police will now question the team that conducted the post-mortem in Koderma to get to the bottom of this mystery.

While the state police is yet to approach Nirupama's boyfriend Priyabhanshu regarding the case that has been registered against him, he has been in consultation with legal experts and is expected to move court on Monday to get relief.
