Justice JS Khehar will assume office as the next Chief Justice of India in January.

Supreme Court judge Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar will be the next Chief Justice of India. His name has been recommended by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur today.
In November, the Law Ministry had requested Chief Justice Thakur, whose term ends on January 3, to recommend a successor.
Justice Khehar, 64, will be the 44th Chief Justice of India and will take up office on January 4.
Justice Khehar was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge in September 2011. He has held office as the Chief Justice of Karnataka and Uttarakhand High Courts.
