The medical condition of veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu, who is battling pneumonia at a hospital in Kolkata, is said to be deteriorating.
According to the latest medical bulletin, there is fluid retention in Basu's body and multiple organs have been affected. His urine output has also been affected.
95-year-old Basu was kept under full ventilation as a precautionary measure on Friday night, though he was put on partial ventilatory support in the daytime.
Basu was fed through riles tube on Friday night. Presence of highly drug-resistant bacteria has been confirmed during a bronchoscopy.
Basu was admitted to the AMRI Hospital with pneumonia on January 1.
